FAQ Advanced Flourish Transportation
Popular Questions
Here are answers to commonly asked questions. If you cannot find your question, kindly use the form to get across to us. We will be glad to respond back.
1. What is non-emergency patient transport?
Non‑emergency patient transport is a planned service for people who are medically stable but need extra support to travel safely to and from healthcare appointments or care settings. It is different from a 999 emergency ambulance and focuses on comfort, dignity and safe transfer rather than urgent treatment
2. Who can use Advanced Flourish Transportation?
Our service supports children, young people and adults who cannot travel safely by public transport, standard taxis or private cars due to mobility, medical, mental health or learning disability needs. Families, carers, local authorities, NHS teams, care homes and supported living providers can all book journeys with us.
3. Do I need a medical referral to book?
You do not always need a medical referral to use our private non‑emergency transport. However, when journeys are arranged by NHS services or local authorities, they may carry out an eligibility assessment based on national non‑emergency patient transport criteria before funding transport.
4. What information do you need to make a booking?
When you request a quote or book, we will ask for journey details such as date, time, pick‑up and destination addresses, mobility needs, access issues and any medical or behavioural information relevant to the trip. This helps us choose the right vehicle, crew, equipment and timings for a safe, comfortable journey.
5. What types of journeys can you provide?
We cover a wide range of non‑emergency journeys, including hospital and outpatient appointments, day case procedures, care home moves, therapy and clinic visits, social and family events, and specialist trips such as bariatric, mental health and palliative journeys. All journeys are planned, risk‑assessed and delivered by trained staff.
6. What areas do you cover?
Advanced Flourish Transportation is based in Chatham, serving Medway and surrounding parts of Kent, with the ability to support longer‑distance journeys by agreement. Coverage is planned to reflect local patient transport patterns across Chatham, Gillingham, Rochester, Rainham, Strood and neighbouring towns.
7. Can a family member or carer travel with me?
In most cases, yes. Many non‑emergency transport frameworks recognise that some patients require an escort, such as a parent, carer or support worker, especially where there are communication, learning disability or mental health needs. Let us know at the time of booking so we can plan seating and safety appropriately.
8. What if I use a wheelchair or need a stretcher?
We provide wheelchair and specialist transport for people who cannot safely travel in a standard seat. Many non‑emergency patients qualify for supported transport because they need to travel lying down, require a stretcher, or are full‑time wheelchair users who need help with transfers or stairs. Please tell us about your mobility and equipment needs when you book.
9. How do you keep people safe during journeys?
All journeys are risk‑assessed and carried out by trained staff who follow national guidance for non‑emergency patient transport. This includes checks on vehicles and equipment, infection‑prevention measures, safe moving and handling, monitoring of clinical risks where applicable, and clear handovers with families and professionals.
10. How far in advance should I book?
For routine appointments and planned moves, booking as early as possible gives the best chance of securing your preferred time slot. NHS services often advise booking several working days in advance for non‑emergency transport, and we follow similar good‑practice timelines while still trying to help with shorter‑notice requests where capacity allows.
11. What happens if my appointment time changes or is cancelled?
If your appointment is moved or cancelled, please contact us as soon as you can so we can update or rearrange your journey. Non‑emergency transport providers typically need timely notice to adjust schedules and avoid wasted trips, so early communication helps us keep the service efficient and responsive for all users.
12. Is this an emergency ambulance service?
No. Advanced Flourish Transportation provides non‑emergency transport only. For life‑threatening conditions, serious injury, chest pain, breathing difficulties, heavy bleeding or loss of consciousness, you must call 999 or follow NHS emergency guidance, as recommended across national ambulance and patient transport services.
